Case: GG-2026-120
Status: Resolved
Documentation rating: B
Location: Khamar-Daban Mountains, Russia
The Khamar-Daban Hiking Tragedy is one of the most unsettling and puzzling wilderness deaths since the Dyatlov Pass incident. Between August 4-5, 1993, six members of a hiking group died under unusual circumstances in the Khamar-Daban Mountains near Lake Baikal, Russia. The sole survivor, Valentina Utochenko, reported bizarre behavior, sudden collapses, bleeding, panic, and confusion among her companions. Official investigators attributed the deaths to hypothermia, but debate continues.
