The Petrozavodsk Phenomenon was a widely reported aerial event observed during the early morning hours of September 20, 1977. Witnesses across northwestern portions of the Soviet Union and northern Europe described a large luminous object resembling a glowing jellyfish that emitted numerous rays of light while hovering above the horizon. The event became one of the most extensively documented UFO incidents in Soviet history and contributed to the creation of official Soviet research programs focused on anomalous atmospheric phenomena.
